Its a long weekend again. And these holidays bring us the best freak show on earth. The only one freak show on earth where u are always a willing actor. The one place where someone will pick their nose while talking to you and without you complaining. The group where someone dedicatedly interferes with your life and you applaud them. The only setting where someone pukes on your carpet and you say its ok. Welcome to the most popular freak show on earth. Family.
I understand happiness is having a big loving close-knit family that lives VERY VERY FAR from you. Preferably in a different province, country or galaxy. The farther away, the better! How true that statement is.
Family brings out the best, and the worst, in all of us. And mostly the extended one during those get togethers. You will share a bed with a none showering, stinking snore simply because he uses the word cousin when referin to you.
You will invite someone to your home who then insists vioja is the best show on earth and you unwillingly surrender the remote coz he is ur uncle, watch the program and laugh through it. It doesn't matter if you are laughing either at the stupidity of the actors or the sheer idiocy of the audience in your living room.
Family is indeed the greatest comedy on earth. You will accomodate a guy who snores to ur bed, and tell them good morning at the first light of day. You will spend the day with arrogant lil brats who only see the word manners in a dictionary simple coz they call you uncle.
Well and its only here you smile at men in red socks, women in those purple stockings, children in those plastic shoes and old men and women who by all means smell sort of funny.
But its only here where you will interact with people no other settin will allow. People who have different political views, spiritual beliefs and football loyalties. Its only these people who will happily contribute to ur fundraising to go for further studies, you go there, drink all of it and they will still welcome you back.
Its only these people who will warn you about keeping some friends, you give them no ear, yet run to them when you get betrayed. Its only these people who can accept you when you are broke, pregnant or dying.
