Tribute To Wangari Maathai

Posted September 26, 2011 by in Poems ... and other rhyming stuff

Towering above all others once stood a mighty tree
In a jungle bedeviled by chaos and oppression
A tree which endevoured to set everyone free
Tirelessly following its passion for freedom
And whenever it shook its mighty branches
Evil had no chance but to retreat and flee

But not without battles, blood and tears
Fought so passionately by the towering tree
With passion and dedication that knows no fear
Through loss of branches and leaves alike
For the helpless in the forest she held so dear
And while she lost some battles, she won the war
And fruits from her branches would soon appear

Her fruits soon grew ripe and hit the ground
The soil moist and rich from her tears and blood
Then soon emerged the seedlings from the earth
Strong and healthy and and weilding her love
Well protected by her branches of courage
And they grew and flourished besides the mighty tree

The towering tree now stands no more
And with sadness tears trickle down our cheeks
And the jungle is silent and mourning the loss
But soon the wind will blow our tears away
And the trees will whistle a thankful goodbye
And though our eyes are red and in tears
In the depth of the jungle her trees are green
